Arts & Entertainment in Ingersoll

It's just as well that when you move to Ingersoll, you're only five minutes from the highway. Since there is so much to do, you'll want to get home from work, get changed and get going!

Ingersoll is known as the Festival Town Ontario, and there is pretty much a festival of some sort happening every month of the year. Between festivals, the fun continues with a lively local theatre, music and dance groups, and events at the popular museums.

Museums in Ingersoll

Discover the fascinating history of Ingersoll at the Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum and exactly why the town produced a 7,300 pound cheese and took it on an international tour! Explore a replica 19th century Cheese Factory, Sherbrooke Barn and a blacksmith shop with working forge at the Ingersoll Cheese & Agricultural Museum.

Just opened on the same site is the Oxford County Museum School - discover the reconstructed 1900s schoolroom, with genuine items dating back to the 1800s, including inkwells, desks and an authentic strap!

Events are held at the Museum throughout the year, and as new exhibits are always being added to, one visit is really never enough.

For sports fans, the Ingersoll Sports Hall of Fame has all the facts and figures you'll ever want to know about famous sons and daughters of the town.

Theatre, Music and Dance in Ingersoll

Theatre lovers can enjoy top quality shows at ITOPA (Ingersoll Theatre of Performing Arts), a non-professional community theatre based at the Park Place Theatre. Founded in 1976, ITOPA presents a mixed programme throughout the year of dramas, musicals, comedies and movies in this 148 seat venue.

As an Ingersoll resident, you may also find yourself invited to a dance, charity function or wedding held in the spacious surroundings of the Ingersoll District Memorial Arena auditorium.

With so many festivals including music, it's hardly surprising that Ingersoll has its own Music Academy, offering lessons for all ages and abilities. Equally, the two dance schools in town ensure that every parade has lots of movement and lively dancing courtesy of their students!

Arts & Crafts in Ingersoll

Ingersoll also has a vibrant artistic community, many of whose work is showcased around town and at the Creative Arts Centre (ICAC) in Victoria Park. You can learn new crafts and skills at the ICAC, with regular classes held in painting and fine arts, pottery, quilting, and fibre arts, and there is also a program of children's classes both at weekends and after school. The Centre has a Fibre Arts Room, fully equipped pottery and painting studios, and holds regular exhibitions in the Gallery.

There are also numerous art shows across the town during our annual Passport to the Arts Festival. (For more details, see our Festival page.)

Ingersoll Library offers a full program of events for kids and adults including book clubs for adults, a special Books for Babies session, cookery classes, a kids everyday science club, the popular Lego Lovers Club and the Ukulele jam sessions held once a month!
